I first got into website design about nine years ago. I was a typical thirteen year old computer nerd with a few of his own websites. These websites werent anything like you would see on todays internet. These were homepages. By todays standards a homepage is the initial page of a website as most websites have hundreds of sub-pages or directories. It is what makes a website just that; a webbed site. But just nine years ago it was rare to see a website with any more than ten pages, and most only had one or two. Today you hear people talking about having their own Blog. Its cool. Its the in thing to do now. Hell, even I do it. Back in my younger years my homepage was my blog. Everyone had their own homepage. Its what defined you. Its what made you who you were in the online world of chat rooms and forum posts. I was a fan of wbs.net or Webchat Broadcasting Systems. This world of chatrooms is no longer in existance but would be comparable to the current MSN chat. Everyone used to use ICQ which is still around but has been overtaken by larger bullies such as the MSN and Yahoo messenger. Places like AngelFire and GeoCities provided free homepages with advertisement compliance similar to the current day Blogger. The Internet was smaller back then. Much less powerful. Ebay didnt even come to be until several years later. Even though I have a blog that makes life much funner and easier than in the past I will still miss having my own homepage.
