Rockport

We went to Corpus Christi this past week to get away from the office for a while. Its about a five hour drive so we left on Sunday morning, stopping at Sonic for a late breakfast. The Lighthouse Inn was our hotel and was located in Rockport about thirty minutes north of Corpus. We arrived at just after five in the evening.

Before we left we decided to get the cheap room because of the weekday discount. We would be staying until Wednesday. When we got to our room we were disappointed to see that it was on the ground floor with no deck and it was facing away from the gulf. Any sane person would have kept the room, but being spoiled as we are we decided to upgrade to the Captains Suite. This four room area came with two televisions, a king sized bed, a full kitchen, and a deck on the top floor overlooking one of the most rural fishing docks on the gulf coast.

I did take more pictures of the hotel but they really arent web-worthy. That night we headed for Corpus to dine at a restaurant called Landrys to dine on fresh shrimp and fish. The experience at this restaurant was so good that we ended up going back for lunch on Tuesday.

One thing Beleisha wanted to do while in Corpus was to see the distinguished aquarium they have. So, on Monday we had a light lunch at Quiznos so I could try the new prime rib sub (which is by far the best sandwich there) and took off back to Corpus. When we arrived by the aquarium we noticed the USS Lexington...

...was about a block away. We thought the personal tour would be short enough to see both in the same day so we went to the Lexington first. We were wrong. After spending the entire day playing hide and seek in the bowels of this behemoth ship we were simply too tired to see the aquarium. If you ever get the chance to enjoy a day or two at Corpus Christi I would suggest taking a day to see the Lexington; its well worth it. We ended the day with dinner at a cozy restaurant near our hotel in Rockport called Charlotte Plumbers where we both had fresh flounder with crab stuffing.

We went directly to the aquarium on Tuesday to enjoy colorful fish, a display of jellyfish, and even a dolphin training show.

If there had to be a disappointing part of our trip this would have had to been it. The aquarium just didnt have enough sights for how much we paid to get in. It took us less than two hours to see the entire place not to mention half of it was under construction. So after our lunch at Landrys we decided to take a tour of North Padre Island accessed by the bridge south of Corpus. We had a nice two hour drive and a short ferry ride that brought us right back to our hotel where we spent the rest of the evening watching videos in our hotel. We also ordered pizza that night from a family owned delivery service in the area called Euro Pizza. A little heavy on the garlic but homemade fresh ingredients made this pizza a keeper. I would definitely order from them again.

Wednesday marked the final day of our vacation so we took to Corpus for one last walk on the coast and a grand finale at my all time favorite; Joes Crab Shack. I will now leave you with a few random pictures.
