After studying some of the numbers from the analytics tool that my web host provides me I have run into an interesting discovery. Due to the way I have created a dynamic image which has been placed on several Wutzle Users websites, data is collected throughout a span of several similar URLs. These websites currently consist mainly of Bloggers from Montana. The unearthing of this data will not only enable me to adjust Wutzle to the demands of the average Blog user but will also provide for some appealing records in the future.

In the past five days the numbers tell me a few interesting facts:

  1. Over two thirds of Montana Blog viewers use MSIE
  2. Ninety Eight percent of those use v6.xx
  3. Nearly one third of Montana Blog viewers use Mozillas Firefox
  4. Only a fraction use a Netscape or Mozilla <= v4.x
  5. One viewer used Macs Safari
  6. Another viewer subscribes to MSDN and has used Internet Explorer Version 7 Beta

I became curious with the last fact as I had not previously heard of IE v7 before. Supposedly it is going to have tabs similar to Firefox, Opera, Netscape, etc., etc., etc… When is Microsoft going to learn that it is not the look and functionality of Firefox that draws users but rather Mozillas compliance to open source? MSDN didnt work; try again!

Excerpt from MSDN website: [IEv7 has] New tools to take you directly to the information you want through support for Web feeds (RSS) that includes automatic discovery of web feeds (RSS) on Web pages, basic Web Feeds (RSS) reading capabilities, and basic support for saving Web feeds (RSS) as a new kind of favorite. The first thing I thought of when I read this comment was the introduction of Google Desktop well over a year ago. Will IEv7 be Microsofts final gasp of air in the world of browsers? Its only a matter of time before Googlefox becomes the top dog.
