The main thing that keeps me going to work anymore is what we call the weekly Pilgrim. Every quarter we have a signup sheet where you choose which day you would like to bring food in to share with your beloved coworkers. One week we will have bagels, the next week we enjoy doughnuts, and the next there will be bagels again. It’s an ongoing pattern of rounded bread.

I put my name down to bring in some chow this week, not knowing that my financial situation would be as it is now. I’ve missed three weeks out of the past two months of work due to a marriage and a funeral so you can assume that we are down to reusing toilet paper again. I was hoping to bring something in on Halloween being one of my favorite holidays but I had to wait until today when I could afford the muffins from Costco. It’s not a big deal. I was making spaghetti tonight and was going to pick up some of the worlds best garlic bread while I was there anyway.

So there I was, three packages of muffins, two loaves of bread, a carton of eggs, and an invalid Costco card. I don’t really mind that my grandparents took me off of their Costco business plan. I just wish they would have told me before I spent thirty minutes in there today. Oh well. Look at the bright side. At least I wasn’t buying two cartfuls of groceries on a Sunday afternoon.

So, a little annoyed, I headed to Wal-Mart. I hate to disappoint my beloved coworkers by not bringing in the usual bread group, but Li’l Smokies were on sale today. Well, they weren’t Li’l Smokies but were Wal-Mart brand Little Smoked Wieners instead. I guess I will be waking up early again tomorrow to throw eight packages of processed cow meat into a crock pot with a few squirts of barbecue sauce. I like to make it look like I care.
