Just playing on the computer.

I got a text book delivered by the United Parcel Service today. I would like to know why it is referred to simply as UPS, and not ‘the UPS’. Would it not be correct grammar to use ‘the’ before an acronym? Or, possibly it has something to do with UPS corporate strategy. At any rate, I should probably tell you the story about the text book instead of UPS.
I will be doing taxes for H&R Block this upcoming tax season. It’s not that I really want to do taxes as I do have plans of my own. I simply would like something else to do every now and then besides spending the entire fourteen hours of my day online. At least I should have several more hours per day free than I do now.
Beleisha labeled my web design as ‘playing on the computer’ today. Were Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin simply playing on the computer when they developed the most profitable web software company on the face of the planet? How about Jeff Bezos? Did he consider selling books online as work? And who could forget good ol’ Pierre Omidyar, Ebay genius? Yes, in fact, every last one of these people was playing on the computer during these life-changing developments. My job is to play on the computer, and I love what I do. :)
But now I must study this thousand page book before I leave for Texas in December. What a drag, huh? So I might not have much time for my web architecture in the next few months. But, once the year 2006 rolls around you’ll start to see much, much more of me!
